1941 / Empire of the Sun - Banzai!

This is a paint by number of an Edward Hopper painting. I found it in an wacky cool antique store. LINK! Hopper is one of my favorite painters of all time. The Mitsubishi Zero and Sun were added. This is the smallest painting of the show however I have had the most offers for it. I am holding it for a friend who wants to trade pieces after the show comes down. (Sorry for the bad flash photo. Will try to get a new picture up of this piece up soon.)

Link to the original Edward Hopper painting.

Opening Night's Performance Piece

The events in Stephenville Texas served as inspiration for the evening's attempt at contacting a U.F.O. What do you get when you take a fog filled 100 foot long tube full of people, a fish tank full of milk and a Speak and Spell? ... a pinata Mothership.

Promotional Flyer

The submarine in this image is from 1941. The background image is a Bob Ross landscape.

Temple of Doom - The Rope Bridge

Juxtaposed, the figures are vintage star wars. Swapped Indy for Han and etc.

1941 - Lost

One of my favorite modern artist, who serves as a big influence in this painting, is Ed Ruscha.

U Boat

This is the nazi sub from Raiders crossed with the Japanese one in 1941.

Director and Producer Totems

I don't know where this idea really came from outside of the fact that I think totem poles look cool. The goal was to have the silhouette read properly with the wing shape second from the top. The producer pole has iconography reflecting my favorite films Spielberg produced. Starting from the top...Twilight Zone -"Kick the Can", Gremlins, Back to the Future, Goonies, Poltergeist and *batteries not included. The director pole...Raiders, 1941/Empire of the Sun, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T. The limited edition hand poured resin casts sell for $150 each.

E.T. - Circuit Bent Speak and Spell

Circuit bending is the creative short-circuiting of devices as low voltage, battery-powered guitar effects, children's toys and small synthesizers to create new musical instruments and sound generators.

This "bent" Speak was custom built for The Lost Park show by Fast Matt.

Kick the Can - Twilight Zone

Stripe - Gremlins

The Flux Capacitor - Back to the Future

Skull - Goonies

T.V. - Poltergeist

Alien Mechanical Life Form - *batteries not include

(Casting by Brad Oldham studios)

Where the idea came from.

4 years ago I had the desire to hang a cluster of bikes painted orange as a sculptural space filler in the large building where I work. Not until this past year had I realized it would look sorta like a scene from E.T. if the front bike had a milk crate on it.

That's when everything started falling into place.

Raiders - Hovitos Golden Idol

Some of the paintings I worked on top of were paint by number. There really isn't anything quite like them. For those who don't know...everyone of the paintings in the show came from either a swap meet, garage sale, a grandma's attic, a cattle barn or a flea market. I like to think of it as a post An Inconvenient Truth - green approach to painting.

Close Encounters - The Day After

I have always loved the name Piggly Wiggly and it's logo. Those grocery stores used to be all over the place in Fort Worth when I was a kid.

Temple of Doom - Monkey Brains

This is a robotic monkey head I purchased off ebay. I just cut out some of the head and attached a foam brain in the theme color. It was placed in automatic tracking mode on the wine and cheese table for the opening reception.
